A lot of people are looking for coaching jobs here in Oregon. Some coaches are temporary hires while others are permanent. Mullens seeks a coach who will be there for the long term. Taggart was a one and done deal, and Cristobal was lured by a suitor that scared off Oregon officials.
Willie Taggart
Oregon was one among many schools interested in Taggart's services this offseason. Taggart was apparently offered $20 million for five years to become the Ducks' coach. Taggart declined the offer and was instead offered the Florida State position. Taggart was however strongly interested in the possibility of rebuilding UO. He also reportedly balked at the offer of $30 million from Florida State.
Taggart, who was rejected by the NFL, began his coaching career. He spent time at Stanford, Stanford under Jim Harbaugh (University of South Florida), and Oregon. His philosophy focuses on excellence and discipline, with the first priority being accountability. He said that he encourages his players to strive for greatness.

Willie Aranda
Aranda, who was named head coach of the Baylor Bears in 2020, has a proven track record. After winning the national title at LSU in 2019, he moved to Baylor, where he led the Bears to an 11-1 record and the Big 12 title. Cal Lutheran is where he was raised.
Oregon is currently searching for a new head coach after Mario Cristobal left to go to Miami. In a recent Duck Territory podcast, we took a look at some of the coaching candidates. Each candidate was rated by Sportsline. We also discussed the pros and disadvantages of hiring someone who has a coaching background from Pac-12.
Justin Wilcox
The University of Oregon today is very different from when Wilcox first arrived in late 90s. The facilities have changed and the expectations are high. Mario Cristobal (the last coach at the school), won 10 games this year, including a win in Ohio State. However, he faced harsh criticism for not winning more games. Mark Helfrich (the former coach) was also a native Oregonian. Both were fired following the season.
The Ducks are in the process of interviewing potential candidates for their head coaching job. Bob Canzano from Oregon has made contact with Wilcox and another candidate, one of which is in the NFL. The Ducks are eager to hire a coach quickly. Early signing day is just around the corner. Each minute that passes increases the chance that a candidate will be drawn to a different program.

Mario Cristobal
Mario Cristobal has been named the University of Miami's Head Football Coach. He was previously the head football coach at Florida International University, and the University of Oregon. He played college soccer for the Miami Hurricanes. As an offensive tackle, he won two national championships. He was awarded First-Team All-Big East Conference honors both in 1991 and 1992. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1993 and went on to earn his master's degree in 2001.
Cristobal will likely take over a team that has been in difficult times. The Hurricanes currently stand at 7-5 and their head coaches, Greg Diaz (who has only won 21 games) is a mediocre coach. Following the dismissal of Blake James as Miami's athletic director Blake James, Diaz's job security has been in question for a while. Miami will face Washington State in the Sun Bowl this month.
